Celebration of the Oke Itase Festival 2024
The most anticipated day for practitioners of Traditional Ifá has arrived: the culmination of the Oke Itase 2024 festival. After a week of intense ceremonies and rituals, today at Ile Awo we have the honor of presenting for the first time the Ifá sign that will govern the coming year, revealed in the worldwide Ifá divination conducted early this morning in Ile Ife.
The final day of Oke Itase 2024 began with a solemn procession from the Oke Itase temple to the palace of the Ooni, followed by the Ooni’s visit to the temple. The Ooni of Ile Ife, the spiritual leader of Ifá worldwide, blessed the participants and officiated sacred rituals, marking the beginning of the worldwide Ifá divination.
Thousands of people gathered at the Oke Itase temple and performed the propitiation of Ope (the sacred palm) with Obi, following the example of the Ooni of Ile Ife and the Araba Agbaye. This propitiation is one of the most important ceremonies performed before the divination, which reveals the sign that will govern the next twelve months. After the pilgrimage leading Ifá to the temple of Ile Ife, headed by the Araba, the propitiation to Ifá was performed with Obi and other sacred materials, preparing the way for the worldwide divination.
At Oke Itase 2024, the revealed sign is Otura Ogbe (Otura Oriire) in Ayewo arun (illness). This Odu speaks of the importance of propitiating Egbe (the fraternity) to gain their support and succeed in life. Ifá also indicates that it is vital to propitiate Olokun as this Orisha will save you from a great danger you face and will allow you to defeat your enemies and be recognized.
Ifá also advises that you must constantly propitiate Orí and also offer offerings to Ogún to obtain all the luck.
