Next April 1st is a date of great significance for Ilé Awo. We celebrate the festival of Ifábíyìí Akódà, commemorating his 27 years of experience as an Ifá initiate. These are nearly three decades of a life entirely dedicated to the study, practice, and teaching of the Yorùbá tradition.
This celebration coincides with the Ọdún (festival) Mọlẹ-Ifá festival in Ọ̀yọ́, the primary Ifá festival of Ọ̀yọ́ and the birthplace of our lineage. The festivities, which draw people from all over Nigeria, will begin by propitiating Èṣù and Ògún. Thousands of devotees will also propitiate Ọ̀pẹ̀ (the sacred Ifá palm tree) with Obì, asking Oládùmarè for luck and the overcoming of all obstacles.
The festival will span several days with propitiations to various Orisa and a special event at the Palace of the Aláàfin of Ọ̀yọ́. The climax will be the final day, when the people of Ọ̀yọ́ and surrounding areas climb Òkè Agidàn mountain for collective Ifá ceremonies.
