The city of \u1ecc\u0300y\u1ecd\u0301 was today the stage of the majestic coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Iku Baba Yeye, \u1eccba Ab\u00edmb\u1ecd\u0301l\u00e1 Ak\u1eb9\u0301\u1eb9\u0300m \u00d2w\u00f3\u00e1d\u00e9 I, as the 46th Al\u00e1\u00e0fin of \u1ecc\u0300y\u1ecd\u0301<\/strong>. The ceremony, held at Olivet Baptist High School, marked the beginning of a new era for the Yor\u00f9b\u00e1 kingdom.<\/p>\n

\u1eccba \u00d2w\u00f3\u00e1d\u00e9, born in 1975 into the royal \u00d2w\u00f3\u00e1d\u00e9-Agunl\u1ecdy\u00e8 family, is a direct descendant of Al\u00e1\u00e0fin At\u00edba. His academic background<\/a> includes studies in mechanical engineering at institutions in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Before ascending the throne, he served as a project coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Governor of \u1ecc\u0300y\u1ecd\u0301 State, Seyi Makinde, and prominent Yor\u00f9b\u00e1 monarchs such as the Ol\u00fab\u00e0d\u00e0n of \u00ccb\u00e0d\u00e0n, \u1eccba Owolabi Olakulehin; the O\u00f2ni of If\u1eb9\u0300, \u1eccba Ad\u00e9y\u1eb9y\u00e8 \u00d2g\u00fanw\u00f9s\u00ec; the S\u1ecd\u0300\u00fan of \u00d2gb\u00f3m\u1ecd\u0300\u1e63\u1ecd\u0301, \u1eccba Ghandi \u1eccl\u00e1\u00f2y\u1eb9; and the Oluwo of \u00ccw\u00f3, \u1eccba Abdulrasheed Akanbi.<\/p>\n

The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the significance of the coronation, calling it a transformative moment in the history of the \u1ecc\u0300y\u1ecd\u0301 kingdom and stressing the vital role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and cultural identity.<\/p>\n

Prior to the coronation, \u1eccba \u00d2w\u00f3\u00e1d\u00e9 completed the mandatory 21-day traditional rites, known as \u00d2r\u00f2 Ip\u00e9b\u00ed<\/strong>, which took place from March 7th to 29th. During this period, the incoming monarch entered a secluded retreat, where he was instructed in the traditions, duties, and sacred secrets of the throne. This process is essential to prepare the new Al\u00e1\u00e0fin for his role as the spiritual and political leader of the people of \u1ecc\u0300y\u1ecd\u0301.<\/p>\n
