After more than two years of careful consultations and divinations led by the wise Oyomesi, the Yoruba people celebrate the selection of Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. This historic process culminates with the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde, marking the beginning of a new era of leadership and cultural continuity in Oyo town.
Born into the noble Owoade-Agunloye family in Oyo, Alaafin Owoade combines a profound ancestral heritage with an outstanding academic and professional trajectory. After completing his secondary education in Nigeria, he trained as a mechanical engineer at prestigious institutions. He later earned advanced degrees in the United Kingdom, including a bachelor’s and a master’s in mechanical engineering.
The new Alaafin of Oyo, Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade, boasts extensive professional experience, having worked for prestigious companies in both Nigeria and Canada. His professional and global leadership, alongside his strong educational background, positions him as a leader prepared to take on the challenges and responsibilities of the Alaafin throne.
The new Alaafin of Oyo not only carries a rich cultural heritage but also brings a transformative vision for Oyo’s future. His agenda includes modernizing the palace without losing its historical essence, promoting Yoruba traditions worldwide, and creating a museum to preserve cultural artifacts. Additionally, he plans to foster economic development in Oyo through trade and vocational training programs, empowering youth, widows, and other vulnerable groups.
At Ilé Awo, we celebrate his ascension to the throne and wish that Eledumare blesses him with wisdom and long life to lead and expand the wealth of Yoruba culture globally, just as the 45th Alaafin of Oyo did for more than four decades, whose legacy is still remembered by all.
